Our farm is nestled in an idyllic setting between the mountains and ocean along the beautiful mid coast area of Maine.  We are home to a herd of Lowline Angus cattle that come from high quality Australian lineage.

Our Story

After raising three wonderful children and seeing them off on their individual life paths my husband and I found ourselves looking around and saying, "Now what?"  After 30 years of marriage we decided it was time to reinvent ourselves. It didn't take long to realize what we now wanted in our lives was to move to a farm with enough land to be able to enjoy long walks in the woods with our dogs, raise some farm animals, and even grow some of our own food.  Within a few short months we found our parcel of land and started Millie and Bemps Farm.  Being 'town folk' we really were unsure of what to do next but what we did know was that we wanted to become a farm that demonstrated the full concept of sustainable and humane farming principals.

And so it began.  My husband researched the Australian breed of cattle known as Lowline Angus.  They are smaller than full size Angus and raising them comes with a host of advantages that appealed to us.  With their docile nature, manageable size, and profitability, being just a few of their attributes, we purchased our seed stock and have been growing the herd ever since.  Oh my, what an adventure it has been!

You see, most farmers come from a line of farm families, and with that the aged and proven knowledge of how this farming thing is done.  Unfortunately neither my husband nor myself had this advantage but that neither stopped us or even slowed us down.  In we dove learning as we went with many times the livestock being some of our best teachers.  With the help of a wonderful veterinarian who agreed to work with us, several old timer locals, and the wisdom of other farmers, we have forged our way into this wonderful new world.

Since then we have added an apiary, raising bees not only as pollinators, and honey producers, but for the sake of possibly helping a failing species survive.

Our newest venture is to incorporate dairy goats into our lives.  In preparation of this we attended one of Maine's many institutions of higher learning, we went to Goat School.    There we met an extremely knowledgeable and caring couple who have positioned themselves to give 100% of their time and energy helping folks like us to start a successful goat operation.  Our goal with the goats is to first appreciate the funny, wonderful creatures they are, and to soon be making and selling cheese and soaps.

Along with all of these endeavors there are the standard vegetables, fruits, and herbs that we grow in the summer.

This is only the beginning for this humble couple.  We look forward to years of new products and adventures, knowing that along the way there will be some tears but many more smiles.  I hope you continue to follow us on our web page and blog, I promise you it will never be boring!
